K Motors, Independent Specialists in Land Rover vehicles have been performing Range Rover Sport Repairs since the vehicles launch in 2005.

The introduction of the All New Range Rover Sport was an instant success, along with its great exterior looks, the cabin offers an extremely comfortable place to be with most of the controls angled towards the driver and a driving position that really makes you feel like the king of the road. On these points alone it puts used vehicles in very high demand.

The driving experience is a joy, the automatic gearbox changes seamlessly and with a good view of the road ahead it corners easily with little body roll, there are no creaks or groans and there is very little road noise. It is extremely solid and beautifully built. Off road it is simply staggering, even for the novice, select the right setting – hill descent/snow/rocks/mud and off you go.

All this technical brilliance does mean that the vehicle is full of electronic control units where pretty much every fault requires the vehicle being hooked up to specialist diagnostic equipment. This in turn means that if things do go wrong, specialist tools and knowledge are required.
As well as our extensive knowledge and experience in Range Rover Sport repairs we also have the very latest Autologic diagnostic equipment and technical support to aid in any fault finding. Here we have a list of the more common RR Sport faults, symptoms and costs* to repair.

Range Rover Sport Repairs - Front Lower Suspension Arm
Loss of power can be caused by a split in one of the intercooler hoses. This means that the air boost pressure is lost so the air and fuel mixture is incorrect leading to poor performance and generally black smoke from the exhaust. In most instances, this will put the car into restricted performance mode but not always. This is most common on the 3.6 TDV8, to check, inspect the two hoses that run from the top of the intercooler into the engine, a split will show if you squeeze them. We would always advise to change both hoses even if only one is faulty as the other will fail shortly after.
Front suspension lower arm (single OEM) inc 4 wheel alignment£320
Front suspension lower arms (both OEM) inc 4 wheel alignment£610
Range Rover Sport Repairs - Front Hub and Bearing

A grinding or rumbling noise that gets worse when turning and gets louder the faster you travel often indicates a worn wheel bearing. To check, jack up the wheel and feel for play by rocking the wheel from top to bottom. If you find play here or the wheel feels rough when rotated then the complete hub and bearing assembly needs to be replaced.
Replace complete hub and bearing (Timken)£355
Range Rover Sport Repairs - Front Anti Roll Bar Bushes

A clunk when cornering and feeling the vehicle move or jump further over opposite to the direction you are cornering can be a sign that the anti-roll bar bushes are worn and need replacing.
Replace both anti roll bar bushes (Genuine LR)£160

A light rattle at the front when travelling over speed bumps or potholes is generally an indication of worn bushes in the tie bars (also known as the anti roll bar drop links).
Replace front suspension drop link (OEM) price per side£100
Range Rover Sport Repairs - Front Suspension Upper Arm
Upper suspension bushes are more difficult to diagnose than the lower bushes, you may experience a wandering feeling of the back end of the vehicle when cornering or over potholes. Check properly by jacking the car up and feeling for play.
Front suspension upper arm (single OEM) inc 4 wheel alignment£295
Front suspension upper arms (both OEM) inc 4 wheel alignment£580
Range Rover Sport Repairs - Front Differential

A drone or whine from dry bearings indicates a failing or failed front diff. Drop a small amount of oil from the differential into a clear jug and look for silver filings (looks like glitter) in the oil, if it is present then the gears are wearing and the diff needs replacing.
Replace front differential (OEM)£1150
Range Rover Sport Repairs - Front Driveshaft
The most common issue with Range Rover Sport front driveshafts is a knock when turning indicating a worn CV joint. Splines can also wear however, resulting in a limited connection to the drivetrain and eventually the splines will be so worn that the driveshaft will just slip in the hub and no longer turn the wheel.
Replace complete front axle shaft (OEM) - LH£300
Replace complete front axle shaft (OEM) - RH£300
Range Rover Sport Repairs - Front Suspension Strut and Air Bag

Replace complete rear differential (OEM)£1150
Range Rover Sport Repairs - Rear Suspension Spindle Connecting Rod

The rear spindle connecting rod can be a cause of tyres scrubbing on the inside edge, the vehicle will feel like it is moving more than it should over potholes or around corners.
Replace rear spindle connecting rod (each OEM)£85
Range Rover Sport Repairs - Rear Suspension Strut and Air Bag

If the vehicle will not raise on one corner and the height sensors and valves have been ruled out then it is likely you have a split or leak in the suspension air bag/boot.
Replace rear suspension strut and air bag (each OEM)£375
Range Rover Sport Repairs - Air Suspension Faults
Most air suspension faults have the same symptoms, a yellow light with a picture of a car and an arrow over the top of it will show on the dash. The vehicle will be slow to raise and only go to standard ride height and will not go into off road or access mode. We always advise a diagnostic check before changing any parts.

Range Rover Sport Repairs – Intercooler Hoses
Loss of power on the Range Rover Sport can be caused by a split in the main intercooler hose. This means that the air boost pressure is lost so the air and fuel mixture is incorrect leading to poor performance and generally black smoke from the exhaust. In most instances this will put the car into restricted performance mode but not always. Intercooler hose failure is most common on the 2.7 TDV6 and 3.6 TDV8 engines, to check, inspect the large hose on the left of the engine that runs down to the bottom of the intercooler on the TDV6 or the two hoses that run from the top of the intercooler into the engine on the TDV8. Look for evidence of oil on the outside of the hose or a split will show if you squeeze them. We would always advise to change both hoses on the TDV8 even if only one is faulty as the other will fail shortly after.
Replace main intercooler hose (Genuine LR) 2.7 TDV6£105
Replace both top intercooler hoses (Genuine LR) 3.6 TDV8£105
Range Rover Sport Repairs – Fuel Gauge
If you have noticed that your fuel gauge is reading incorrectly then this can be caused by a faulty fuel sender (there are 2 in each tank) or the pump or a faulty ECU. However, often it can just be an issue with the connectors that attach the wiring loom to the fuel sender units which can be replaced. It is a common fault with a number of Land Rover and Range Rover models. Be careful if you are thinking that you can live with an incorrect reading on the dash because if the ECU thinks the tank is empty it will stop the engine to prevent any damage and not start again and you can guarantee it will do it at the most inconvenient time and location.
Replace fuel pump sender connections (Genuine LR)£275
Replace one fuel pump sender unit (Genuine LR)£340
Replace both fuel pump sender units (Genuine LR)£420
Range Rover Sport Repairs - Front Brake Pads Replacement

If low brake pads are spotted early before any metal on metal damage is caused to the disc then just the pads can be changed. Generally once the warning light has come on it is too late and discs will need to be changed also due to scoring.
Front brake pads replacement (both sides OEM)£134
Range Rover Sport Repairs - Front Brake Discs and Pads

If brake pads have worn low and scored the discs then it is advisable to change both for optimum performance. The average life of brake discs is around 32,000 miles, after this they are considered too thin and will have a lip around the edge where just fitting new pads will take too long to bed in and most likely cause a squealing sound each time you apply the brakes.
Front brake discs and pads replacement (Both sides)£239
Range Rover Sport Repairs - Rear Brake Pad Replacement

If low brake pads are spotted early before any metal on metal damage is caused to the disc then just the pads can be changed. Generally once the warning light has come on it is too late and discs will need to be changed also due to scoring.

Range Rover Sport Repairs - Handbrake Shoe Replacement
Screeching or locked and hot rear wheels can be caused by the handbrake shoes collapsing meaning that either the contact material has come away from the metal shoe and jammed or one of the mechanisms has broken causing them to lock up. Sometimes this can cause damage to the discs which means they will also need to be replaced.
Handbrake shoe replacement (both sides OEM)£255
Handbrake shoes, discs and pads replacement (both sides OEM)£395
Range Rover Sport Repairs - Handbrake Actuator Replacement

If the handbrake has locked the rear wheels and will not release then this can be a sign that the actuator has seized. Most times it can be released using the emergency release cable under the handbrake button. If the actuator does need replacing then the shoes and discs will also have to be replaced for the system to calibrate and work properly and to validate the warranty of the new actuator.
Electronic handbrake actuator, shoes, discs and pads replacement£1385
Range Rover Sport Repairs - Brake Pipe Replacement

A common MOT failure on the Range Rover Sport is brake pipe corrosion, where the pipes are attached to the chassis dirt gathers in the clips and sits around the pipe slowly eating away at the metal causing it to swell and in the worst cases burst the pipe.
Brake pipe replacement depends on which pipes need replacing prices start from...£50
